Barakee Welsh Mountain Ponies

Barakee Welsh Mountain Pony Stud began in essence with the purchase of 4 year old Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding Nattai Caradog (Coed Coch Bari [Imp] x Nattai Jenny Wren) from Lady Creswick's Nattai Stud in March 1992. Caradog was shown in led, saddle and later harness classes throughout his illustrious career.

However it was not until February 1994 that the stud itself was established with the purchase of the grey yearling Welsh Mountain Pony filly Nattai Medwen - the future foundation mare of Barakee Welsh Mountain Pony Stud.

Barakee aims to breed true to type Welsh Mountain ponies. Ponies are all descended from the Foundation Mare, Nattai Medwen (Nattai Prophet x Nattai Mefeusen) and are bred mainly on Coed Coch and Nattai lines.

Medwen had an extremely successful show career, including Best Welsh Exhibit (& Bronze Medal - Welsh Pony & Cob Society UK) at the 2001 Victorian All Welsh Show, and all of her progeny and descendants have won or placed at the Victorian All Welsh Show.

The stud is situated at Longwood East, Victoria, just five minutes from the Hume Highway.
